Finding your way around
Modern and classic retain their appearance choices, light and dark themes, and top, left or right navigation. The default destinations are now grouped by work:

On desktop, hovering a group opens its submenu. It stays open while you move into it and closes shortly after the pointer leaves. Escape dismisses it even when keyboard focus is elsewhere. Modern adds glass surfaces and spring motion; reduced-motion preferences suppress the animation.
In a side rail, the current group opens automatically. Click or press Enter on a group heading to expand or collapse it. On smaller screens use Browse workspace. The menu scrolls inside the screen; Escape closes it and returns focus to that button. Dense tables can scroll horizontally inside their own area.
Admin uses Service delivery, People & access, Connections and School settings. The Admin link opens the first section your permissions allow. A missing destination can mean a disabled module, missing permission or your personal hidden-navigation setting.
Keep your own arrangement
Section titled “Keep your own arrangement”Open Account, then Account & appearance. A saved custom destination order stays in the same order under Your navigation. The account editor shows the workspace groups and supports hiding or showing individual pages or whole groups. Use workspace groups clears a custom order while preserving hidden pages; Reset restores default grouping and visibility. Hiding a destination changes your menu; it does not change access or remove the page from search.
The Account menu also contains the theme toggle and sign-out action. Your existing modern/classic preference and chosen navigation position are preserved. Choose Follow the school’s setting instead beneath either personal choice to return it to the school default. From rc.4, another browser clears its older override when it next loads your confirmed account preferences.
Search and keyboard navigation
Section titled “Search and keyboard navigation”The Search workspace field remains available on phones as well as desktop. Type two or more characters for record results; page suggestions also recognise familiar terms such as repairs and inventory. Only permitted pages and records are offered. A remote helpdesk search still requires an explicit action.
ArrowDown moves from the search field to the first result. Tab moves through results and actions; Escape returns focus to the field and closes the results. A failed search displays retry feedback. An older response cannot replace the results for a newer query.
At the start of the staff page, keyboard users can use Skip to content to move past navigation into the current workspace. These interactions have component and representative browser checks; they are not a claim of certified accessibility across every assistive-technology combination.
Understand loading and refresh feedback
Section titled “Understand loading and refresh feedback”Dashboard, Devices and Reports distinguish initial loading, no results and a failed request. Use Try again after an error. If a refresh fails after data has loaded, the previous data stays visible with Showing the last loaded data. Treat it as a previous snapshot until the refresh succeeds.
Device filters wait briefly while you type and discard superseded replies. CSV exports include all matching devices within the export limit, rather than only the visible page. On Reports, changing the date fields is a draft until you press Run. CSV uses the range printed above the displayed report.
Public portals, parent pages, kiosks and sign-in keep their own task-focused layouts. They do not acquire the staff navigation rail.
